The Top 10 Things You Should Be Doing Today to Get to MU
1. Enter Orders in the EHR
Providers must enter 80% of orders into the EHR for MU. Orders do NOT have to be
SENT electronically (printing requisitions is fine) but they must be entered in the EHR.
2. Transmit Prescriptions Electronically
75% of eligible prescriptions must be sent electronically
3. Maintain Active Problem, Medication and Allergy Lists
80% of patients must have problem, medication and allergy lists recorded as
structured data, including an indication of “none” if there is no active problem, med or
allergy.
4. Record Patient Demographics
80% of patients must have demographics recorded as structured data, including
preferred language, race and ethnicity.
5. Routinely Record and Chart Vital Signs
80% of patients ages 2 and up must have height, weight, BP and BMI recorded, and
data must be plotted on a growth chart for children aged 2-20
6. Put Key Lab Interfaces in Place
50% of clinical lab results with a numeric or positive/negative format must be
incorporated in the EHR as discrete data.
7. Routinely Perform Medication Reconciliation
Medication reconciliation must be performed for 80% of relevant encounters and
transitions of care.
8. Record Smoking Status for Patients 13 and Over
Smoking status must be recorded for 80% of patients
9. Routinely Check Insurance Eligibility and Submit Claims Electronically
Eligibility must be checked and claims submitted electronically for 80% of patients.
10. Enable Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Checking
Real time drug-drug, drug-allergy and drug-formulary alerts at the point of care must
be enabled.
